What is EFT? - Is the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Acupuncture... or Something Else?

EFT is a gentle technique that can be used by anyone. EFT; 1) Needs no equipment 2) Causes no pain 3) Is easy to learn.

This technique is somewhat like acupuncture however, there are NO needles used for EFT! Acupuncture is based on the Chinese meridian energy system, and so is EFT tapping!

EFT uses the tips of the fingers to lightly tap various spots located on the face and body. It is referred to as emotional acupuncture or emotional acupressure however, EFT can also be classified as a simple form of hypnosis because it involves ‘focused concentration’ i.e. focusing the attention on an issue i.e. emotional upset, physical discomfort i.e. pain or stressful thought while tapping on the body.

The process of gently tapping on these meridians or body points allows the body’s physical energy system to engage with the mind and this helps achieve alignment between the two. EFT works with our natural ‘Mind-Body’ connection.

Tapping on specific acupressure or EFT tapping points , while focusing on a problem or unpleasant physical sensation helps to alleviate or ‘lift’ the associated feeling or emotional component. After all, the word we use is… emotion or e’motion (energy in motion) not ‘e’stuck (energy stuck). Stuck, blocked or pent up negative energy in our bodies can be the root cause of all sorts of mental and/or physical problems.

Negative feelings and emotions that are stuck cause a disruption in the body's energy circuits. When these circuits are disrupted or blocked, we do not function at our best. Using EFT helps reduce/relieve and can even remove energetic distress in the body. This can have a profound and pleasant effect on attitude, perception, relationships, creativity, career, sports, abundance and health!

Even though, EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques, it has been clinically proven to be effective in treating many things that keep us from having a happier, healthier life such as; ongoing stress, low self esteem, fears and phobias, depression, chronic worry, insomnia, back pain, anxiety, trauma, confidence issues, weight loss, weight management, unhealthy habits, limiting thinking and beliefs, addictive behaviours, childhood issues, physical tension, pain etc.

Properly applied by a trained EFT practitioner, over 80% of the clients treated with EFT achieve either noticeable improvement or complete cessation of the problem. Many people, including professionals like doctors, believe that it is the missing piece in the health and wellness puzzle!

Who Can Benefit From Learning and Using the Emotional Freedom Technique EFT?

Most people experience relief and relaxation the first time they try EFT, while others need a little more practice. Even when you are just learning the mechanics of the basic tapping process, you will feel EFT "taking the edge off" of the problem, and you'll likely experience an improvement in your mood as well as an increase in energy!

There is quite a difference between basic or mechanical EFT tapping and a more artful or intuitive form of the Emotional Freedom technique. Many people learn EFT and have some great success' but, they don't put the time or effort into developing the tapping into a more artful skill or ability.

This is unfortunate, since there is a tremendous benefit when the intuition or 'wise self' gets more fully engaged in the tapping process. When we are plugged into a higher perspective, transformation and healing through deep and profound insight comes much more easily and quickly.

If someone is having difficulty developing a more intuitive or artful way of doing the tapping, then, this is a great time to have a couple of sessions with a qualified EFT practitioner.

The practitioners experience and guidance can help the client develop this deeper connection so they can continue on with their own tapping in a more artful and self-empowered way.

Important Note: Although EFT is still in the experimental stage and does not work 100% of the time (as nothing does), it offers a new level of health and happiness without drugs, needles or negative side effects. What a gift EFT is!
