EFT Clean Sweep Method

EFT Clean Sweep - EFT Global Tapping

A Highly Effective EFT Global Tapping Technique!

GO TO: EFT Techniques Help Center

Techniques such as this one, called the EFT Clean Sweep, are considered by the tapping community to be ‘global’ or general.

These EFT Global tapping techniques are usually not used to help resolve a specific problem or issue, because the approach is too general. However, they are extremely helpful in many other ways - you can find out by reading on!

First, this technique is effective for soothing or calming energetic static (i.e. stress, worry, frustration, overwhelm etc.) that usually goes hand in hand with any issue or problem - And a wonderful bonus, is that it’s a super tool for discovering hidden memories and forgotten past events, especially ones from our childhood and teenage years.

"Gary Craig says, effectively tapping on specific negative events from our past, is where the EFT Pot of Gold is."

Gary Craig says, effectively tapping on specific negative events from our past, is where the EFT Pot of Gold is. Many times, it’s these memories that hold the key to our health, happiness, vitality and abundance!

Doing the Clean Sweep can be compared to sweeping or dusting our energetic ‘floor’, but instead of using a broom, we’re applying EFT tapping! We give the floor (the EFT points) a couple of good rounds, to get the bits of dust and debris (emotional static). Then we end up with a cleaner, less cluttered floor (energy system), there’s a fresh feeling all about!

Then, we take the Clean Sweep broom and reach way... under the bed. Aha, there’s a big hairy dust bunny. It might even have an old sock in it! These are the forgotten past events and hidden memories that we had no idea were lurking underneath! But as I mentioned, these dust bunnies are EFT Gold!

Next, I’ll share some ideas about when to use the Clean Sweep and an example to give you an idea about how to apply it.

When to Use the Clean Sweep Technique

1 - When we are new to EFT and lack the experience and skill to effectively tap on and resolve specific past memories and events, but we want to begin working with our issues.

2 - When we can't recall specific memories or past events, or feel we are being blocked from remembering them.

3 - When we don't feel ready to tap on a particular specific event because it was too traumatic and there is a part of us that is afraid to get into too much detail right now.

4 - When we are working on a larger issue that has multiple aspects. This sort of tapping is great to do in between our own tapping sessions or ones with a tapping buddy or EFT practitioner.

This is a great way to consistently balance our energy, reduce emotional static and as I mentioned, it tends to bring up forgotten or blocked memories that can be worked on more thoroughly at a later time, either alone or with another.

Here’s a Hypothetical Scenario

We were the youngest child in a family of five children. The older siblings constantly teased, tormented and picked on us. As an adult, we have entered into a string of unhealthy relationships where we've been treated in demeaning, disrespectful and emotionally abusive ways.

We suffer from stomach problems, acid reflux (gerd), poor digestion, abdominal cramping and tension headaches. These physical symptoms act up when we're stressed and feeling disempowered, put down by others (especially our partners) and unable to speak up for ourselves. It happens regularly at work and with friends and loved ones.

EFT Clean Sweep Tapping Example

Since this is an EFT Global technique, it is not as important to get a specific SUD’s intensity level i.e. 0 to 10. However, you will want to take note of your overall mood or emotional state when you begin the tapping as well as after you finish a few rounds.

The goal is to find a level of relief (a reduction in the emotional static) and to take note of any negative memories or specific past events that may rise to the surface. Keeping an EFT journal is a great idea, so you can take some notes.

EFT Setup

KC - Even though I was teased and tormented by my sisters and brothers... I deeply and completely accept myself

KC - Even though I was the ‘baby’ and was made to feel weak and powerless by the others... I choose to support myself right here... right now

KC - Even though part of me is really afraid to step into my own power... I acknowledge and respect *all* of my feelings

EFT Sequence

TH - I was teased and tormented as a child

EB - I felt weak and powerless

SE - I still have this same pattern as an adult

UE - I seem to be attracted to abusive and domineering people

UN - And when I feel powerless, weak and unable to stand up for myself

CH - My stomach cramps up and turns to acid

CB - I've decided to begin taking my own power back

UA - I choose to allow my inner strength to show up in surprising new ways

This is a very simple example. It would be good to do several rounds i.e. expand and tap more on the pain and suffering. Then, add in some turn around tapping statements and end off with a few choices and appreciation affirmations. While tapping, some additional issues or aspects may come up. Something like, remembering that our parents where pretty much absent from or ignored what was going on between us and our siblings. How we felt very unprotected, vulnerable and unsafe. When this happens, we can make a brief journal entry about this recollection -- Then, we can refer to it for later tapping on our own, or bring it up in a session with our tapping buddy or EFT practitioner.

Also, specific negative memories and events are likely to surface. In this example, it could be something like recalling being locked in a closet when we were four. It was joke played on us by an older brother… BUT it was very serious and scarey to us being a four year old! This is a great specific memory to use the EFT Movie Technique on! If you know how to do EFT Matrix Reimprinting, it would work extremely well here.

Some people mistakenly believe that experiencing trauma means going through something extreme, horrible and very traumatic -- like physical or mental abuse, a bad accident or the death of a parent. They therefore feel that being traumatized does not apply to them because their childhood was pretty ‘normal’. However, far less significant events can cause trauma, negative emotions and disruptions in the body's energy or electrical system.

Trauma expert, Dr. Robert Scaer defines being traumatized as, any situation where we felt helpless and overwhelmed. When you consider being locked in a small dark closet at the age of four, with no parents in sight to end the ordeal, it makes much more sense how this sort of event could traumatize us!

I am sure most of us could sit down and write a list of a dozen or so past events or memories that fit into this ‘helpless and overwhelmed’ definition of trauma. A dozen is what we might come up for us consciously -- but what about the things we’ve blocked or forgotten? There could be another dozen or so. Lots of potential tapping opportunities for sure!

The really cool thing about EFT is, the generalization effect. This is where we don’t have to tap on all of the past events that contributed to our feelings of being powerlessness and lacking in personal strength. We may only need to tap on a few of the significant ones and our subconscious mind knows which ones these are. These are the 'key' events and memories, that when effectively tapped on, will collapse the issue and result in emotional freedom on this subject.

All of us could likely benefit from doing the Clean Sweep technique on a few random childhood issues and see what emotions and specific events come up. We may be very surprised at what we find lurking just under the surface. There may be a dust bunny or two that’s been hiding under our energetic bed!

When tapping globally, it’s important to take note of any unusual body sensations, aches and pains, a scratchy throat, tears and other such things, as we tune into an issue. These things may be an indication of an emotional or energetic diamond in the rough! - And with some questioning, intuitive detective work, inner guidance and skillful tapping, it's possible to produce a beautiful diamond that will shine to brighten and illuminate our life's path!

Happy Tapping! Karen
