- Anxiety Constricted Breathing - This is an EFT tapping technique used specifically to calm shallow,
erratic breathing. Constricted breathing is generally experienced by anxiety sufferers as well as those with fears, phobias, shock and trauma. This technique can help
reveal hidden issues, as the inability to breath deeply is often a sign or indicator of deeper emotional issues.
-
Borrowing Benefits - Gary Craig, eft founder discovered during group EFT sessions, that sometimes, participants are able to resolve their own issue by simply tapping along with another, even though the issues are totally different! There is no guarantee that borrowing benefits will work for everyone however, some have reported dramatic results.
-
Karate Chop Point - The Karate Chop point is mainly used for the EFT setup. Tapping on this point while saying the setup phrases is
intended to deal with psychological reversal (see below). It is an alternative for the EFT Sore Spot point (see below). The karate chop point is on the soft fleshy part
of the non-dominant hand and is located between the base of the pinky finger and the wrist. This is the spot on our hand that we would use to break
a board... 'karate chop' style. For more information, and the exact location of the EFT Karate Chop Point click here:

-
Global Tapping - With Emotional Freedom tapping, it is very important to be as specific as we can - However, sometimes by tapping generally
or globally on a subject i.e. “Even though I have this anxious stomach and I don’t know why”, it can help us discover hidden aspects and/or root causes. So, with global
tapping we are not aiming to resolve our problem or issue but instead, use a global tapping approach as an easy to apply, yet effective detective tool! Here's a great article
on a very helpful
EFT global tapping technique.
-
Meridians - The ancient Chinese identified twelve major energy channels in the human body. Each of the 12 main meridians run along a
particular route in the body and are connected to one of the 12 major organs. The meridians running throughout the body, are not visible to the human eye and are
referred to as the subtle energy system. When energy is disrupted and does not flow smoothly in the meridian system, emotional and/or physical distress, pain and
ill health occurs. For more information click here:

-
Psychological Reversal - "When Psychological Reversal is present, it literally blocks progress."
~ Gary Craig
Psychological Reversal (PR) happens when one part of us wants to change and another part of us (energetic or subconscious) is resistant to the change.
Tapping on the Karate chop point or rubbing the sore spot while saying the EFT setup is designed to eliminate PR. However, sometimes more advanced methods
or alternative setup statements are required. For more information go to:
EFT Affirmations
-
SUD - Subjective Units of Distress or Discomfort - A SUD helps us become more aware of our emotional, mental or physical state.
We get a SUD by rating the level of discomfort on a numerical scale i.e. 0 - 10. With 0 being no discomfort at all and 10 being the worst we’ve experienced.
The goal is to reduce the SUD’s level as we do the tapping process however, sometimes the intensity goes up, or does not change at all. This is not a bad thing it just
means we need to change our approach, identify other aspects or go deeper into the issue.
-
Sequence - The EFT sequence or basic sequence is the process of tapping on the EFT body points after completing the setup procedure (see below).
The EFT shortcut sequence includes tapping gently on the following locations or points; top of head point, eyebrow point, side of eye point, under eye point, under
nose point, chin point, collar bone point and the underarm point. For more information on the EFT sequence click here:

-
Setup - The EFT setup statement is the phrase that is repeated three times while tapping on the karate chop point or while rubbing the sore spot
(see below). It is said before doing the EFT sequence. Here’s a typical setup statement; “Even though I have this _______ (problem, emotion, pain, stressful thought or
memory)… I deeply and completely accept myself.”
-
Sore Spot - The sore spot is also referred to as the "pledge spot" since it’s located where one would place their hand for the Pledge of Allegiance.
This point relates to an acupuncture meridian that stimulates the lymphatic system. At times it can feel tender and rubbing it helps the body disperse lymphatic congestion.
It is best to rub it and avoid tapping. The sore spot is the optimal point or spot for handing psychological reversal however, most people use the alternative karate chop
point because it is easier to find and use.
-
Surrogate Tapping - This is also referred to as EFT Proxy tapping. This is when we tap on our self or another person to help someone else.
Typical uses are; babies, small children or adults who can’t tap for themselves, distance EFT, helping others who can tap on their own, and need a boost.

- Tailenders - This is the negative self talk that pops up right after tapping on a positive affirmation. Example; “Even though I am upset and angry
that I lost my wallet… I choose to believe that it will be returned to me safe and sound.” Then, suddenly the thought, “Most people are dishonest so there’s no way I’ll get
my wallet back.” pipes up. This is a tailender or a ‘ya-but’. To gain benefit from this tailender, we need to discover and tap on the origins of this belief ‘Most people
are dishonest.’ Limiting beliefs such as this, usually develop in childhood, and are learned from our primary caregivers i.e. parents, grandparents etc.
