I Did the EFT Personal Peace Procedure... *BUT* Negative Feelings Returned! What's Up?

EFT Personal Peace Procedure Image QUESTION: I made my list of negative events and things that I wished never happened (114 items in all, I was VERY surprised!). I tapped through every item on the list. I thought I was clearing a lot of ''stuff' because at the time, and for a few days after... I felt great emotional relief!

As I worked through the process I got quite a few of the past negative events that rated 8's and 9's down to 0's, 1's and 2's on the 0 - 10 SUDS scale for emotional intensity.

Now... I think I’ve really lost some ground! This week, some of the negative feelings have returned, the worry, anxiety... depression! This morning I was really 'down' about things. What's up.. is it the EFT not working or is it me?

I’m confused and I’m beginning to think the Emotional Freedom Tapping does not work but, I know this can’t be true, because I’ve talked to others who’ve had great success with EFT. Did I do something wrong with the way I did the PPP... that may have caused this set back?

ANSWER: When doing this process or any of the other of the EFT techniques, sets backs can and do happen, when we expect too much, too fast from the EFT tapping. Even when using advanced methods like EFT Matrix Reimprinting.

This is especially true, when it comes to the bigger, more complex issues like; financial abundance, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, serious illness and disease, relationship challenges, long time weight issues, ongoing career challenges etc.

EFT is a powerful tool but it's not a magic wand. EFT's effectiveness in dealing with the more complex issues depends a lot on the skill, experience and objectivity of the person who's applying the Emotional Freedom Tapping Technique. It also depends on the 'tappers' willingness to discover and deal with any hidden core issues and root causes i.e. unprocessed emotions and limiting beliefs.

The so called EFT 'one-minute-wonders' seem to happen more often for things that haven't been given much thought time to i.e. fear of snakes, phobias, highway driving anxiety due to a single accident, one-time trauma etc. These problems usually have more of an energetic component that's held in the body EFT Personal Peace Procedure Image i.e. they do not have a very big mental component... other than the person being frustrated or confused by the problem itself.

The more we dwell or lament over something (i.e. fret, worry or stress out) the more complicated it seems to get. I've noticed that clients who've read a lot of books, belong(ed) to groups, had 'talk' therapy or have simply done a lot of thinking about their issue (either in the past or currently), need to do more tapping i.e. try different approaches and thoroughly investigate all of the aspects to find the 'key' root causes. It seems like the extra mental and emotional attention towards the issue has reinforced it, given it more substance... made it GROW!

Maybe by dwelling or focusing on something, we somehow form more brain connections around an issue - and in order to dissolve the problem, these connections need to be undone or unraveled i.e. all of the beliefs (thoughts), feelings, visuals and events we have connected to a certain topic. These seem to be the things that support or hold the main issue firmly in place and hold us back from getting what we want i.e. health, happiness, improved relationships, chronic struggles with money etc. BUT... relax, this doesn't mean it will take a long time to clear up these kinds of more seemingly complex issues with EFT!

EFT founder, Gary Craig talks about a table top and table legs analogy. This is where the table top represents the main problem (i.e. depression, anxiety, weight challenges, relationship issues, ongoing debt problems etc.) and the legs are the separate aspects that support or hold the problem in place.

Some of the table tops, the problems and issues in our lives, can have dozens and dozens of legs! Although, the great thing is, we DON'T need to tap on each and every aspect or leg! If we can identify and tap on the ‘key’ aspects, then this triggers a sort of 'domino effect' which causes the other legs or related aspects to weaken and dissolve... then the whole table collapses!

So... it's very possible that doing EFT on half a dozen of the 'key' table legs, will bring the whole table crashing down! And, when the legs are knocked out from under the table there is nothing left to hold up or support the problem.

I've also heard Gary say... "EFT can resolve a problem so quickly, that using conventional therapies (i.e. talk therapy), it could take years to clear it up -- BUT, with EFT, the same issue, can be relieved in weeks or months!" Years vs weeks or months... I'd say EFT is a pretty awesome tool and an exceptionally good value!

My recommendation would be to keep on tapping and learn to go deeper into the issue. Go over your EFT Personal Peace Procedure list again, only this time, try some different approaches like, EFT Matrix Reimprinting and focus on identifying the 'key' aspects related to each of your past negative events or things you wish you did or didn't do.

See if you can identify a few more items to add to your PPP list by noticing random thoughts about uncomfortable or negative past experiences or events. Be sure to make note of the related aspects. You are likely to discover that many of these same aspects, the stressful thoughts and negative emotions show up in your current life i.e. sadness, guilt, anger, feelings of abandonment, "I'm not worthy", "I'm not loveable", "It's not okay to be me", "They're going to judge me" etc.

Also, it's very helpful to remember to do techniques like the EFT Clean Sweep Technique. With the bigger items on your list, it would not hurt to use this tapping method several times a day, while you are working on different aspects of a particular issue or event. Take note though, methods such as the Clean Sweep, are considered to be more global or general and are not very effective at resolving the problem itself.

These approaches however, are extremely helpful for soothing and calming the energetic static that surrounds an issue. Most importantly, they're a super tool for bringing up hidden memories and long forgotten past events, especially from childhood and teenage years. This is where the real EFT jackpot is because effectively tapping on stressful/negative past events, holds the golden key to our health, happiness, vitality and abundance!
